Growing up in Millinocket, Maine, Cheri began painting in 1979 with acrylics and watercolors. She moved to Atlanta in 1990 then to the Golden Isles in 2000 and fell in love with the natural beauty of the marshes, rivers and ocean. Since coming south, Cheri works mostly in oils and prefers to paint landscapes with brush and palette knife getting inspiration for her art from the colors of nature and the surrounding beauty of the places she has lived and visited. She can often be found on her dock trying to capture on canvas the ever changing colors of the day.
Cheri is a self taught artist but continues to enhance her creative energy by taking various classes and workshops. She recently participated with local artist Janet Powers for a week of plein air painting in La Manzanillo, Mexico and regularly paints with St. Simons Island artist Ken Wallin. She is a member of several art organizations including; Glynn Art Association, Jekyll Island Art Association, McIntosh Art Association and
International Plein Air Painters. She is the President of the Oak Grove Island Artists’ Guild.
Her work can be seen at the McIntosh Art Gallery in Darien, Georgia; The Gallery at Heritage Oaks Golf Club, Brunswick, GA; Glynn Art, St. Simons Island; Left Bank Gallery, 3600 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island and at other galleries and art events around the Golden Isles.
